LYRICS

It was at night and with your blue jeans,

The dancing floor and you and her,

Your best friend told you: this is the day,

What a lips, what a girl.

It was your T-shirt and your dark shades,

It was the way to swing your back,

A drunken Cupid with stray arrows,

It was absurdities of life.

The fact is that three hours later

You both were fucking in your car,

The radio played a song of Elvis,

You talked about the city lights.

You saw the sun from the hill

When it was waking up

You had your hand on her breasts,

She sighted and smiled,

She required your lips

And you looked for her mouth

And the penetration was

Totally unavoidable,

Absurdities of life,

And the belt against the glass,

Click clack click clack

Click clack click clack

Click clack click clack

Click clack click clack.

You came faster than a pistol,

And felt so weak after the fight

She felt the need to caress your face,

She was so sweet, you don’t know why.

At your feet a bottle of gin

on the creased panties, began to spill ,

You didn’t notice, you were acting

Repeating one more time the scene.

At the hill were brakes are snarling,

At the hill, where the night ends right

All the young boys and the young girls

Synchronized with the sound.

You saw, so white was the moon,

The other cars went away,

Remember it all had begun

Yesterday.

You looked at her with scorn,

As she was a kind of sin,

You felt her young heart under her skin

Beating really hard,

You felt so sexy then

‘Cause she needed you again.

Somewhere along the battle

You dropped the condom in the car

Ignoring its quite flammable

Specially in presence of gin.

You felt so tired, you needed a cigar,

She kindly lit for you a match

But it slipped from her fingers

And the car became a ball of fire.

And from the city your friends

Were looking at the hill,

“I would have never said

she’d be such a hot girl”

And when they tried to explain

what had happened in the car

They all agreed that it

Had been only one of the

Absurdities of life,

That it had been one of the

Absurdities of life,

One of the, one of the

Absurdities of life….

With care, I’ll arrange your book,

Hiding it among the forgotten things,

I’ll say goodbye to your smile

And I’ll get into the mist,

And as I leave the shore

I’ll see there my heart’s grave

And the sand that on it you throw.

Old girl, I know the time is still to come,

But let me already tell you

The way I think things will go,

You’ll cry when someone kisses your tits

And I won’t come with the other ones,

And until these days fade

I’ll be the saddest beast

That has ever been free.

I guess in parties of two guests

You will appear with your green dress

To grieve my drunkenness,

I am sure and I am sad,

I am waving at your smile

And I’ll spend several years

I’ll spend several years

Until I turn my back at last.

Life is an assortment of doubts, to me.

Am I the someone that she’s dreaming of?

Am I the someone that she’s dreaming of?

Am I the someone that she’s dreaming of?

Life is a weird maze, to me.

Am I the someone that she’s dreaming of?

Am I the someone that she’s dreaming of?

Am I the someone that she’s dreaming of?

Here I am again, it might seem strange

but when I phoned you yesterday I wasn’t as far as I said.

And there is no distance, there is no time,

this tie is holding us really tight, we’ll always be lovers.

This is the same shadow, the same room,

the old process the same perfume, nothing new but it’s not sad.

It’s our secret twilight here, again,

all our confidence, our trust, this is the habit that I love.

All this evenings I’ve been watching out

For the little lights of the land

knowing that you were somewhere

knowing that you were outside

and nothing, nothing was right.

When a love lives within you

it can’t be denied or refused, it’s just a lie of our pride.

Your face is still the face I love to see,

your side the place I want to be, your words the trues I’ll suppose.

And now I know I’m not a perfect man,

I’m not as gentle as I was,

A kind of sadness soaked my ship,

but there is one thing over all,

the only thing I ready for,

the only thing I’m sure about

is that I’d give my life for yours.

I’m not a playing card,

Not a chip, not a piece,

I’m out of the game board,

‘though I’ve acted as an eventual square.

I don’t take part in discoveries,

I don’t look for, I wait and find,

I don’t fill in blanks with paintings.

To everyone that says: it’s him, it’s her,

To everyone that rolls the dice,

Sorry, I don’t belong this table,

I tied myself to a chain I adore,

And with strength I hurt myself

Stretching the rope around my neck

Dying, without air, somehow I enjoy.

Deep need that few ones know,

Calm only comes after sincere embraces

And perishable winnings that last forever

In the darkness of our chamber.

On my knees I embrace your legs

Crying for the happiness I had lost,

Incomprehensible ashes burn again

Giving name to the beauty.

I get lost and you find me,

You get lost and I find you,

Isn’t this one, my love,

Our favorite game?

Well the road is in front of me, tonight,

And the breeze is so warm, tonight,

And your eyes are so green, so green, tonight,

And your words are so kind, so kind, tonight.

That now, I think it could be forever.

Now I think it could be forever.

Now I think it could be forever.

Now I think it could be forever.

Well, the snow is behind the door, tonight,

And we’re locked into the hut tonight,

And all the ravens are, the ravens are in their nests tonight,

And all the shops are closed, tonight.

And now, I think it could be forever.

Now I think it could be forever.

Now I think it could be forever.

Now I think it could be forever.

I almost cross the door,

The threshold over my head

And the curtain in my hand,

But in the last moment,

When the step was definitive,

Your arm found my shoulder

And you took me again
Where I’ll always belong

Hey, save your dress for stormy winters,

Rainy days of wind and clouds.

Save your smile and all your wishes

For one who deserves your love.

I know I’m none to give advice,

Because I’ve spun and twisted,

But in a curve, I’ve known your sweetness,

So I feel I’m able to tell you to wait.

Try to find a box of matches,

Burn me down, start a new page.

There is a road out of this forest,

don’t be afraid it’s just mist,

But you’ve got to wait.

Standing here, beside the lagoon isn’t good for you.

Standing here, beside the lagoon isn’t good for you.

Standing here, beside the lagoon isn’t good for you.

Don’t be afraid it’s just mist,

All you’ve got to do is wait.

Don’t let a sunbeam makes you think it’s summer,

Protect your feelings from the flash.

One day someone will take your clothes off

And you’ll find out he’s the one.

There’s a bird in the chimney

And no way to get it out,

Get away from your worries,

Wait and he will fly.

Because you are an ancient soldier,

Not the first, not the last.

All these mountains are for your eyes,

See the lights are shining, shining there, outside.

Standing here in your room isn’t good for you.

Standing here in your room isn’t good for you.

Standing here in your room isn’t good for you.

See the lights are shining,

All you’ve got to do is wait.

I’m a paternalistic man,

A pathetic supposed friend,

That tells you to get out the well,

That tells you to look at your face,

To forget the guest,

To forget the past,

To get up and see,

See how the lights are shining,

And you have to learn to wait.

Don’t put your trust in windy countries,

Omitting you can do whatever you want,

Don’t let your skin crack so soon,

Standing beside the lagoon isn’t good for you.

I’ve heard you want to go to Galloway,

To stare at the sea cracking down,

To watch the cliffs and to live riskily,

To leave behind a mystery,

And try to find a path.

Don’t hurry for love, one more advice,

Don’t waste the beauty of some words,

One unexpected day will be the day,

The day is on its way, and all you can do is to wait.

Love will come to you again,

For the first time, perhaps.

And you have two arms,

And you have two hands.

The greenest trees,

Grey clouds away,

The moon will come

To comb your hair,

Your precious lips,

Your pearly legs,

Your warm kiss,

I’ll never forget,

See your heart is burning,

And all you’ve had to do has been to wait.

See your heart is burning,

And all you’ve had to do has been to wait.

Author's Comments

I went almost a full year without writing a single song, right around the time I moved house and was deep into rehearsals with the band. In 1997, I suddenly felt the need to capture what was happening to me: so many changes in life, a period of heavy drinking and a lot of emotional chaos. This album is one of the most personal in my entire body of work.
